This is the worst global debt crisis in 35 years – and now the debt vultures are swooping in.
They’re suing Ethiopia, a country pushed into crisis by climate disasters and debt, through the High Court in London. And in Ukraine, the threat of legal action appears to have strong-armed the government into a deal that will deliver these vultures a windfall.
But we have a big opportunity to demand action. At the end of this year, the UK will take over the presidency of the G20 – a self-selected group dominated by rich nations - and right now the government is deciding what's on the agenda. It’s our chance to put action on the debt crisis firmly on the table.
