We’re facing the biggest global debt crisis in twenty-five years - and the impact on people’s lives is devastating.
“People barely get two meals a day - lives are being destroyed because of the debt crisis.” - Bernard Anaba, Ghanaian debt campaigner
But right now, we’ve got a new government, new MPs and a chance to win a new debt justice law to help end the crisis.
Ahead of the election, Labour promised that if elected, they would make “tackling unsustainable debt” in lower-income countries a priority.
Now they are in government, it’s time to make sure they keep that promise.
Will you call on your MP to back a new debt justice law?
With 54 countries in debt crisis, we urgently need action that would force financial giants to cancel unjust debt. And because 90% of the debts owed by lower-income countries to banks, hedge funds and oil traders are overseen by UK law, a debt justice law here could play a critical role in ending this crisis.
MPs are just back from their summer break, and need to hear loud and clear that ending the global debt crisis should be high on their to-do list.
