End Greater Manchester's debt crisis

In a few weeks’ time on the 2 May we’ll have the chance to elect a new mayor. We want to make sure that whoever is elected makes tackling Greater Manchester’s debt crisis a top priority.

Sign this letter to mayoral candidates asking them to end Greater Manchester's debt crisis:

Dear Jake Austin, Andy Burnham, Laura Evans, and Hannah Spencer,

Our city is in the middle of a huge personal debt crisis. More than a quarter of people living in Manchester need debt advice.

Over the past few months, hundreds of people with experience of debt have come together to say what they want to see changed as part of Debt Justice ‘Together Against Debt – People’s Manifesto’, demanding:

  • Fair ways to get out of debt
  • To be treated with dignity and an end to intimidation from bailiffs and creditors
  • Not to be forced into debt just to cover the essentials

If elected mayor on the 2 May, I’m calling on you to take action for people living in Greater Manchester dealing with unmanageable debt. Declare a household debt emergency for Manchester and develop and implement a strategy that tackles this crisis.

I look forward to hearing your response.

This action is part of our Together Against Debt campaign, demanding action on the UK’s personal debt crisis.
