Email your MP to demand debt cancellation
The Financing for Development conference is a once in ten-year opportunity for lower-income countries to make their voices heard on the debt crisis. They're demanding new laws and a global convention on debt - but western governments have been trying to sabotage their calls for reform.
Action on the debt crisis couldn’t be more urgent - right now 32 countries in Africa are spending more on debt repayments than on healthcare.
Here in the UK, there’s a bill going through parliament that could lead to millions of pounds worth of debts being cancelled in lower-income countries. It could have a real impact on the debt crisis, because 90% of lower-income country debts owed to private lenders are overseen by UK law.
This new law, if passed, could make the debt relief process faster and fairer - it's exactly what lower-income countries are calling for.
Email your MP today to and call on them to ask the economic secretary to the Treasury. Emma Reynolds, to support the bill.
