Call on oil trader BB Energy to drop the case
We’ve just learnt that UK-based oil trader BB Energy is taking legal action against South Sudan in the High Court in London.
South Sudan is one of the poorest countries in the world. Devastated by conflict and the climate crisis, now it is being sued in the UK courts by its lenders.
Millions of people in South Sudan could be forced deeper into poverty if the country’s resources are diverted to paying off lenders. The country is in the midst of a humanitarian disaster. 2 million people have been displaced and 69% of the population are in need of humanitarian assistance.
